“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, a quote from Nelson Mandela who is a South African activist, former President and a global advocate for human rights.

Like Mandela, Rev. Liberato C. Bautista, a peace and human rights advocate, writes and lectures intensively in a variety of fields. He serves as Assistant General Secretary for United Nations and International Affairs for the General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) of The United Methodist Church.

He is also involved with the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relationship with the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGO), an international umbrella organization of some 540 NGOs spread around the world.

Rev. Bautista took his Political Science History and Master in International Studies at the University of the Philippines in 1982 and 1989, respectively. He also took his Doctoral Studies in Religion and Social and Political ethics at Drew in Madison, New Jersey in the United States.

At 9 am Thursday, Union will give one of its highest and most distinguished degrees to Rev. Liberato C. Bautista. The Doctor of Divinity, Honoris Causa. The impressive credentials and global ecumenical involvements of Rev. Bautista makes Union very honored and proud to give him this degree.

The Peace Lecture for this year’s convocation be given by Rev. Bautista right after the Conferral Ceremony. {hjs}
